North Etobicoke has a high concentration of industries and a diverse work force, conditions that are essential for economic growth. Through the Economic Development and Employment Work Group, NERP aims to work with local businesses to strengthen the economic and social well being of the area. Another goal of the work group is to increase local hiring by local businesses, through outreach to employers to promote the skilled residential population of north Etobicoke. The work group is also interested in facilitating and strengthening linkages among local businesses. Members of this work group include local employment service agencies, political officials and City resource staff.
Current/recent activities:

With funding provided by the Government of Ontario, through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, this work group has been carrying out an employer capacity cluster study to identify employment growth opportunities and the human resource and training needs among businesses in north Etobicoke. As part of the study, over 100 local employers responded to a survey that was conducted over the last few months. The results of this study will be disseminated through a community workshop series and a one-day conference (details to be announced soon). The funding also enables the development of this website, through which NERP provides current information relevant to local employers and residents.

If you are interested in becoming a member of this work group, please contact us for more information.
