With an abundance of parks, lush green spaces and access to the Humber River, north Etobicoke has a vast amount of green space accessible for community use. With its goals of educating citizens about the environment, keeping the streets free of litter and having trails and ravines accessible with signage, this work group has succeeded in obtaining a diverse membership. Members of this work group include local environmental organizations, students, political officials, educational institutions, and government resource staff.

North Etobicoke Enviro Fair 2008

To celebrate Earth Day on April 22, 2008, NERP’s Environmental Awareness Work Group is hosting an interactive and educational information fair on environmental issues.

The “North Etobicoke Enviro Fair 2008” is the first event of its kind to take place in the Rexdale community, and it will be held at Elmbank Community Centre (10 Rampart Road, off Martingrove between Finch and John Garland) from 10 am to 4 pm.

The Fair will feature displays on waste diversion, solid waste management, recycling tips, recycled products, “green” technologies and careers, an insect display and interactive Reptilia show. Click here for a list of confirmed organizations.

Over the last few months, the Environmental Awareness Work Group has brought together local residents, students, teachers, community service agencies, business owners and various environmental organizations to collaborate on the planning and implementation of the Fair.

The organizing group consists of representatives from the City of Toronto, Humber Arboretum, Albion Library, and various local schools (Thistletown CI, West Humber CI, St. Stephen Catholic School and Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School).

Funding for the fair is partially provided by the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, and the energy to be used at Elmbank Community Centre on Earth Day will be sponsored by Bullfrog Power.

Admission to the Fair is free and everyone is invited!

For more information or to volunteer at the Fair, please contact the NERP office at 416-743-3753 or email nerp@bellnet.ca
